Vishnu… its not any more true that wayanad has a wonderful climate… it was a drought affected district in 2003-04. the climate of wayanad has drastically changed. it is also being aggravated due to the unsympathetic form of agricultural practices adopted.
btw what can NGO’s do? there are few NGO’s who work among the farmers. but sure they do not share the emotional trauma the farmer is facing when his crop fails! its easier to profess than be part of it. there is no capital with the farmer to provide input to the crops to improve the productivity. while the govt. is keen on subsidising industries it removes the subsidy for electricity and fertilisers. as the input have gone down the productivity of all cash crops have gone down tremendously.
what Bob said is true.. diversification of crops and cropping pattern is the only practical solution to it.
